Moving Boxes: Boxes Supplies

  Moving Boxes Supplies

Individuals use moving boxes generally to store personal effects when they move from one point to another. Manufacturers build these boxes with sturdy materials capable of storage on top of each other in ways that significantly reduces the amount of space consumed. The design of moving boxes also depends on their utilization and is generally made of re-enforced cardboard capable of withstanding significant weight.

Type of Boxes

  • Small Moving Boxes: These are boxes of dimensions 15”x12”x10” and smaller. These are great for packing CDs, canned food and books. Based on their size, they are capable of maximum of 144 CDs, 24 average sized hard back books or 40 canned food tins weighing up to 45 pounds. If you are still stuck in the eighties, these boxes store up to 180 audio cassette or 44 VHS tapes.
  • Medium Boxes: These have an average size of 18”x15”x12”. These boxes are most appropriate for moving kitchen items, toys, clothes and appliances. When using these boxes it is important to utilize some form of packaging protection to prevent collision between items. When these boxes are fully packed, movers can expect weights in excess of 60 pounds.
  • Large Moving Boxes: These have an average size of 18”x17”x20”. These boxes are great for packing lampshades, toys, kitchen items, clothes and other oversized items. These boxes are also great to pack items that you will need for the immediate future such as those old jeans you hope to fit into at some point in the future.
  • Extra Large Boxes: This name of this box size is self-explanatory. These boxes hold large, light bulky items such as pillows, blankets and comforters. Be careful when packing these boxes and try not to fill them with small items to save space. These boxes full with canned foods can weigh in excess of 200lbs.

Moving Box Packaging Protection

Any moving specialist will tell you that most damage incurred to personal effects during moving is due to poor packaging. To reduce damages, moving box suppliers have introduced various forms of protection that they employ during packaging. The three main modifications take the form of surface protection, cushioning and void fill.

  • Surface protection involves the use of bubble wraps, packing paper, furniture pads and foam sheets. Movers utilize these types of protections to prevent items from rubbing and scratching each other.
  • Cushioning is the form of moving protection that prevents movement and jostling between items. Movers use these mainly when moving breakable items such as glass and other kitchenwares.
  • Void fills are another important form of packaging protection. Void fills keep separated items in a stationary position and restrict collision between them. The design of void fills depends on the use. However, their basic duty is to fill spaces. Some people just use paper or pillows to act as void fills. Application for void fills is in the packaging of dish and drinking glasses.

Moving Kits

Moving kits are a collection of moving boxes sold as one package to moving individuals. These packages contain boxes of various sizes, tape, wrapping paper, bubble wrap and markers. The quantity of each depends on the size kit bought. Most suppliers offer kits varying form one room to ten room packaging kits.
